Ultimate Guide to Cruising on the Disney Dream

disney cruise line dream

Our five-night cruise had one optional dress-up night, and we were also told that it's fun to change into something a bit fancier (or perhaps a princess costume) when dining at the Royal Palace restaurant. Daytime dress is casual; shorts, T-shirts and casual sundresses are the norm on Bahamas and Caribbean sailings. Many of your shipmates will be dressed in Mickey ears, Disney-themed attire, princess dresses or group T-shirts at all times. An 18% gratuity is added to onboard spa, bar, beverage, wine and deck service tabs. You can always add an additional gratuity for any of your services or servers. Fares vary by season, cruise destination and theme, as well as cabin category.

The majority of Disney Dream's indoor bars and adult lounge areas are grouped together in a warren of interconnected rooms at the back of Deck 4. The District is meant to be a happening nightlife area, but I found it to be more of a dark, confusing afterthought. One way its ships resemble its parks is in the crowds and wait times for nearly everything. Winners included poached eggs with spinach, asparagus and mornay sauce and the goat cheese flatbread.

We started the meal with a bread basket, and the almond croissants were the best I'd ever had, warm and flaky with a delicious almond filling that elevated the pastry. The ship has 14 floors, a black hull, a white superstructure, twin red funnels, and yellow lifeboats. Your cruise won’t cost more than if you’d booked it yourself — it might even cost less!

Disney Dream cabins and suites

Nemo's Reef, a whimsical water play area located on Deck 11, Midship aboard the Disney Dream, is a fun-filled splash deck for young ones featuring pop jets, bubblers and fountains—starring characters from the hit Disney•Pixar film, Finding Nemo. Throughout the interior of the Dream, you’ll find Art Deco design cues and touches of magic alongside state-of-the-art technology. For example, the interior cabins feature Magical Portholes, which offer a virtual look “outside” with appearances from animated Disney characters. For its first years out at sea, the Disney Dream sailed to Nassau and Castaway Cay.

In addition to the Quiet Cove mentioned earlier, the Disney Dream offers more areas reserved just for grown-ups. These include the fine dining restaurant, Palo, which may be booked for dinner for an additional charge per adult. Disney cruise ships offer a mix of typical and unique-to-Disney activities. Perhaps the most Disney thing you can do on Disney Dream is meet your favorite Disney characters and princesses. Also on Deck 12, the Meridian bar is the perfect place for a pre-dinner cocktail before a meal in the adjacent Remy or Palo. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and is a lovely getaway from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the ship.

Disney’s Believe is a production exclusive to Disney Cruise Line and is a father-daughter story about a busy inventor who doesn’t have time for his progeny. He learns about the power of believing through interactions with over 20 Disney characters, including Genie from Aladin, Mary Poppins, Tiana, and more. The shows typically run about 50 minutes to give guests time to get to dinner and other activities.

A Disney cruise might be a magical experience for some, but Disney Dream isn't perfect. On my cruise, dining venues were crowded and loud, and the lobby atrium and pool deck did not have enough space for all the cruisers who wanted to watch the signature shows. Cruisers looking for varied nightlife might be disappointed that many adults are tied up with childcare at night and unable to venture out to the adults-only bars and lounges. Although it’s a larger and more impressive ship than the line’s oldest vessels, Disney Dream decks plans are in many ways similar. Most staterooms are housed in cabin-only decks (decks 5 to 11), while louder public areas such as restaurants, pools, bars and theaters have their own separate areas.

Mickey bars are not on the official room service menu, but can be ordered to your cabin. The design of the Enchanted Garden restaurant on Deck 2 was inspired by the Gardens of Versailles, and its menu claims to be market-style and international. Try the ahi tuna and avocado tower as a starter and the scallops or the prime rib for your main. The signature pecan tart was a nod to Thanksgiving on a Christmas-themed cruise.

According to the affidavit, child abuse material, such as photos and videos of child sexual abuse, some with 9-year-old girls, and at least one with a boy between 10 and 12-year-old, was found on Neri's two phones. According to a criminal complaint, the arrest comes after an investigation that began in December 2023 found he was in possession of child pornography on two mobile devices. Stowers wrote that during a deeper examination, they found more child sexual abuse videos, including those depicting multiple girls, aged as young as 9, as well as a video of a boy, aged 10 to 12.

Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, showers, lockers, sandals, and robes round out the offerings. This is one of my absolute favorite things to do onboard the Disney Dream. I just love enjoying a game of mini-golf out on the open ocean, and the sight gags just add to it.

Is available at an additional fee.” Disney also emphasizes that space is limited. The Senses Spa & Salon offers a wide array of services and treatments. (And the Rainforest Room provides an especially relaxing oasis!) Select experiences are available for pre-booking, and you can stop by Senses to inquire about prices for the Rainforest Room and other treatments during your cruise. Be aware that Royal Palace and Enchanted Garden may also serve breakfast and lunch during a sailing, offering guests a full service option if they prefer not to dine buffet or quick service style.

It has a childproof lock you can choose to use to prevent little cruisers from venturing out on the balcony unattended. Families can pick up a packet at the Midship Detective Agency and use the digital works to solve a mystery. Interactive Magic Play Floors, a ship-limited social network and a sound studio enhance the kids clubs. Down on deck 4, you’ll also find shuffleboard courts — a classic cruise activity. If you prefer your entertainment to be a bit more active, there’s plenty of great recreation to be had on Goofy’s Sports Deck, located on Deck 13 aft.

Will the coronavirus outbreak sink the cruise industry? Los Angeles Times

cruise industry

Besides, says Andrew Coggins, a cruise expert and professor of management at the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. "Cruises are very difficult to sell if part of the country or the world is on lockdown," he says. "Plus, the public needs to be convinced that they are safe." He predicts many more months until the industry comes back.

Some nasty seas ahead

By far the fastest growing segment of the cruise industry has been the advent of luxury expedition cruising, especially in Arctic and Antarctic waters. Additionally, cruise companies are adjusting to the changing demographics of cruise passengers by increasing single occupancy cabins and single oriented activities. There are now over a dozen cruise lines, led by Norwegian Cruise Lines, offering single traveler cabins. The global cruise industry is facing its biggest challenge yet, and it could be months before ships are sailing again. Carnival, the world’s largest cruise company, reported net income of $3 billion last year, compared with $3.2 billion in 2018.

Cruise passengers share what it’s like to be on a ship with COVID cases

First, there was the Diamond Princess, stranded off the coast of Japan as the coronavirus infected hundreds of passengers. Meanwhile, Norwegian Cruise Line told Skift it plans to resume sailing on May 15. It was asked twice by Skift to explain its own more than two month discrepancy with the CDC’s timeline, and declined to provide an answer both times.

Some lines are offering discounts — like a 125 percent credit if you rebook a canceled sail — to fuel demand for later this year and into 2021, says Judy Perl, president of New York-based Judy Perl Worldwide Travel, a Virtuoso agency. "The majority of our clients are very well-traveled so they're eager to resume cruising again," Perl says. "I suspect that after six, eight, or 10 weeks of lockdown, they'll be more eager than ever to resume cruising." Crystal Cruises last month announced a new 140-day world cruise from Miami to Barcelona, via the South Pacific and Australia, with stops in Asia and Africa, including such dreamy places as Tahiti, the Seychelles, and the Maldives. When they do return, cruise lines will likely test the waters with a small number of short, three- to five-day sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean to start, predicts Coggins, the Pace University expert. Some frequent cruisers have said that new restrictions might put a damper on their plans, McDaniel adds.

And he added that cruise passengers are typically very loyal customers and are likely to return to cruising after the shock of the outbreak wears off. Hoping to tap into a surging middle class in China, several cruise companies began in 2016 to add lines to serve Asian markets. Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas swapped out a Johnny Rockets retro burger joint for a noodle restaurant and replaced the duty-free shop with a luxury leather boutique.

Demand for cruises in the Caribbean, Alaska, and around the world was huge; fares were high. COVID-19 has, of course, changed all that, and cruise companies have been battered by an unprecedented drop in demand, sparked in part by CDC and U.S. Despite the cancellations, industry experts say that cruise prices have not dropped significantly. But Carnival Cruises recently offered up to $200 in “credits” that passengers can spend on ships if they keep their reservations through May 31. It's also difficult to know how long it will take to return to any sort of normal. Regular passengers may be willing to sail when the CDC finally OKs it, but new cruisers or less frequent customers may take longer to feel comfortable boarding a ship.

Impact of COVID-19

Ships could be docked for another 100 days -- but there is a silver lining (maybe) for Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian. In an interview, Carnival’s chief executive, Arnold Donald, said the sale would generate enough cash for the company to survive without revenue into 2021. He added that Carnival hoped to take advantage of stimulus programs in other countries where it operates, like Germany, Britain and Australia.

After the capsizing of the Costa Concordia off Italy’s Tuscan coast and the fire on the Carnival Triumph, demand for cruise trips slowed to about 2% to 3% growth per year, down from the industry’s typical 7% annual increases. Travel agencies say most of their clients who had previously booked cruise trips — even river cruises in Europe — are now postponing those trips for several months instead of canceling them altogether. “If COVID-19 confirmed cases continue to rise in North America, no lodging or cruise company could be immune to financial consequences,” Moody’s said in a report Friday. This ruling removes any ambiguity or choice for Royal, Carnival, and Norwegian in terms of their U.S. cruise schedules. That sounds like cold comfort, but it means that when the industry returns, it will come back with the permission of the U.S. government.

news Alerts

Despite its growth, however, the industry is still just a small segment of the travel industry. At an estimated 32 million passengers worldwide in 2020, it still has less than half of Orlando’s, the most visited city in America, 75 million visitors in 2018. Royal Caribbean told Skift, “we are aware of the CDC order and are studying how best to respond to its provisions. Our global sailings are currently suspended through May 11, 2020.” On Monday, its Twitter account reiterated the May 11 date to a passenger on Twitter.

Before they stopped sailing, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line were among the brands saying they would institute a new rule barring any guests with chronic illness from their ships. Those lines would also require any passengers age 70 and up to have a physician's letter saying they're fit to cruise. Major cruise companies have announced plans to return by May, but industry analysts are predicting it will be June — or later — before any ships are back in service. The cruise industry has just ended an incredible decade of growth, and is well poised to extend its success into the next decade.

cruise industry

Among the dozens of issues are crew readiness, securing provisions, implementing passenger health screenings, and determining which ports will be open — and which might turn away a visiting ship. Then there's the challenge of simply getting potential passengers to the ship in the first place. "If any one of those 50 things don't happen, then cruise lines will have to extend the pause," Driscoll writes.

The most important key figures provide you with a compact summary of the topic of "Cruise industry worldwide" and take you straight to the corresponding statistics. Moreover, with Generation Z set to surpass millennials as the largest demographic group in 2020, the future of the industry appears bright. Generation Z and Millennials will comprise 32% and 31.5% respectively, of the U.S. population in 2020. Get stock recommendations, portfolio guidance, and more from The Motley Fool's premium services. From an investor's point of view, though, that may take a very long time, and there's a risk of bankruptcies wiping out shareholder equity.

Both generations share a common preference for “experiences” over material items and are committed travelers. Both have approximately 70% plus positive feelings about the cruise industry and have emerged as committed cruisers. The two groups represent a combined spending power of roughly three trillion dollars, and are poised to surpass baby boomers in the next several years as the largest spending demographic group. The growing interest of millennials and generation Z members in cruising is one of the factors that is driving the upgrade of internet connectivity on cruise ships. "The whole system is frozen, and there are probably 50 things that need to happen in order for cruise companies to operate normally," writes Mike Driscoll in the industry newsletter Cruise Week.

The industry provided 1.177 million jobs and an annual payroll of $50.24 billion, an average salary of around $45,000. Contrary to the widely held belief that cruise industry jobs are low paying, the industry has among the highest average salaries in the tourism and recreation sector. This has pushed the industry to the brink because the cruise lines are not included in any stimulus packages -- Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian are not U.S. companies. They are also very vulnerable to public perception when an illness or other problem breaks out on board. The CDC taking charge may also help absolve the cruise lines from potential lawsuits that might have arisen had any of the three decided to head back to sea sooner than the others and experienced negative consequences.

XXL COMBO Anchor/Wheel Cabin Door Decor/ Wall Hanging Cruise History Tracker (Attachments in 3 COLUMNS)

Cruise door decorations must not include language or imagery that may be considered vulgar or offensive. Carnival cruise line has put out the most extensive rules about decorating your cabin door. Some people may feel like these rules are too restrictive, but the fact that Carnival actually embraces the concept as well as they do, it’s no surprise there are rules. From safety-conscious creativity to interactive elements and ever-changing themes, your cabin door becomes a vibrant chapter in the shared story of the cruise community. To find places to purchase items try Google “door decorations Etsy”.

You can leave messages on your cabin door

Choosing the right materials for your door decorations is key to ensuring they last throughout the cruise. We recognize some of our guests like to decorate their staterooms and we, too, love seeing your creative decorations. However, for safety reasons, we must ask that you abide by the following guidelines for decorating your stateroom door as well as the interior of your stateroom. Following basically the same guidelines set out by Carnival, RCCL allows door decorations as long as they’re not hazardous or stuck to the door with tape or adhesives.

Piece Cruising Era Magnets Cruise Ship Decorative Magnets

For your convenience, we offer flame retardant decorations on our website at /funshops. Carnival is taking away something I/my family really enjoy. These new requirements are being mandated by our operational safety experts. Decorations not made of fire retardant material can pose a fire hazard. We want all of our guests who enjoy decorating their doors and staterooms to be able to continue to do so but it is imperative that guest and crew safety be given top priority. We very much appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Decorations on your cabin door make finding your room much simpler. Other passengers go all out with banners and foil letters that can be adhered with command strips or even double-sided magnets. This post is geared towards decorating cruise doors on a Carnival Cruise, but if you happen to need information on Disney Cruise Line and Fish Extenders, I’ve got you covered. I haven’t been on a Disney cruise yet, so I’ll let Jackie Galley of DCLFan website explain it to you.

They should not interfere with clear access to your room or the hallway for crew and fellow guests. As you embark on your Carnival cruise adventure, remember that every detail contributes to the tale of your journey. Decorations can be funny, cute, or even serious. A piece of ribbon or even a pull-top from an aluminum can can be glued to the back and used to hang from the door.

Have someone crafty make custom decorations

These thoughtful touches not only make your door distinctive but also foster connections and shared experiences. They help your friends, family, and even new buddies find your room without getting lost. Most importantly – what I see violated sometimes, is the fact people hang string lights. Not even battery-powered fairy lights are allowed. Be the first to know about new collections and exclusive offers. Cruise Decorations should only be on your door or inside your room.

The reality is, while NCL published a policy against cruise decorations in 2019, there are still plenty of people who put magnets on their doors and they go ‘unnoticed’. Much more than magnets, however, will likely get the decorations removed. Just know that it’s officially against NCL rules to decorate a door, but it seems that the cabin stewards have some discretion.

Poop Deck - Cruise Door Magnet Funny Cruise Magnet Carnival Cruise Magnet Cruise Decorations

Sometimes it’s as simple as quickly identifying which cabin is yours. Elaborate decorations might be used to celebrate a life event or holiday. Some Carnival ships have doors with a wooden veneer, which may interfere with cruise door magnets. We recommend packing Command Strips (approved by Carnival) to put up your decorations.

I embellished it with paint and glitter to resemble a mermaid. Door decorations don’t have to be expensive. For example, on every cruise, I have brought my WSU flag and hung it from our mailbox with a command hook. Don’t limit your creativity to a single design. Explore seasonal or themed decoration ideas for different cruise occasions. Before you begin planning your cabin decorations, make sure you know the rules and are willing to follow them.

Craft foam comes in different colors, is lightweight, and is easy to work with. Pre-cut wood ornament size, think 4-leaf clover, fish, and mermaids, all waiting for you or your kids to personalize. Additionally, printing pictures of a ship that displays its name requires a photo release. If the photo was taken during a previous vacation, it may comply with copyright regulations. Not everyone has the time or creativity to make their own decorations.

Depending on what you are looking for and how much room you have to spare in your luggage, places like the dollar store always have decorations that are tropical or holiday-related. Order cabin door and stateroom decorations directly, ensuring a professionally adorned space without the need to pack or worry about potential damage during travel. The doors look similar, and the halls go on for what seems like an eternity.

The team planned to buy a 53-year-old cruise ship named Marco Polo — but aborted the plan when they realized what an expensive nightmare refurbishing it would be. Their next pick, the 27-year-old Grand Classica, was abandoned after they realized that it, like many other used ships, would not meet future environmental regulations. Residents can dine at 20 restaurants, browse the farmers market sourced from the ship's hydroponic gardens, or spend the day curled up in the 10,000-book library. "The people who went West — who traveled by wagon, by train out West in pursuit of a dream — that's what we're all doing," Cosentino said.

The ones on the MV Narrative are expected to grow lettuce, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries. Considering they're spending at least $875,000 on an apartment, you'd expect residents to have extravagant requests for facilities. But most requests are mundane, while others are slightly unusual.

Welcome to Storylines luxury residential community at sea. Storylines is building a luxury community at sea, which features 547 residences, eleven different floor plans, ranging from studios to 2-level, 4 bedroom penthouse-style homes and everything in-between. The ship will have 20 restaurant and bar concepts, three swimming pools, a helipad, bowling alley, movie theater, microbrewery, and a 10,000 book library. The ship will also grow its own produce thanks to a solar-powered hydroponic garden. The state-of-the-art, 10,000’ Health & Wellness Center will include alternative treatments, a spa, salon, juice bar, fitness center and will be the Largest Wellness Center at Sea. When cruise ships became "floating petri dishes" and cruise lines halted global operations in 2020, Storylines saw an opportunity.

Kennels can be hard on pets so you might consider in-home boarding at someone else’s home through Rover.com, in-home pet/home sitting at your own home, or leaving your pet with a friend or family member. Everyone has access to limited space outside the unit to store a few personal items. Keep in mind you have access to sporting equipment such as snorkeling, scuba, paddle boards, golf equipment, bikes and more. It is a turn-key residence so you won’t need to bring much. Below deck, I have to think about where sewage will be stored on the ship and how to get rid of residents' water waste and trash in a sustainable way.

Invite a friend for a month, your children for a week, or make eternal memories with your grandchildren for a whole summer. Should you wish, Storylines will even manage renting your residence for you while you are away. Chart your day the way you want, with activities to keep you as active or relaxed as you choose to be. Dine in or out under the stars and dance, or dream the night away. It is either a right to occupy for 12 years, 24 years, or for the life of the vessel.

Disembark and return at any time, simply advise our team of your plans. Storylines cruises slowly, based on the belief that it takes more time to know a destination than the 8 hours allowed by traditional cruise lines. We spend 1-5 days in each port with an average of three days, with most stops having at least one overnight stay. This unique approach allows you time to find your favorite coffee shop, see all of the sights at your own pace, and make new friends in exotic locations.

Some former employees said they'd warn against anyone trusting Storylines with their money or well-being. One employee who quit last year said it was "everyone's dream" for the company to succeed. Storylines has "sold this idea to too many people for them to say, we couldn't get this done," he added. If the cofounders backed down, he said, it "would burn everything behind" them. Another Storylines employee at the time said Lee had told him he would "get laid every night" if he moved to Wrocław. The now-former employee told Lentz about the conversation and declined to move, finding Lee "off-putting as hell."

Try one of our classes on indoor cycling, Pilates and more or work out at your own pace. You can also head out for fresh air and exercise on deck, where you'll find basketball and volleyball courts, and two refreshing pools (available on select ships). The Explorer’s Lounge is an elegant and refined space to enjoy a glass of wine, a cocktail, or your favorite liqueur. Canaletto is a relaxed setting with authentic Italian cuisine that is best enjoyed when shared. The ultimate steakhouse at sea, with an exceptional menu of Prime steaks, seafood and wine. The 7-Day Mediterranean with Greece & Italy on the brand new Sun Princess, setting sail on her inaugural voyage in February, is a terrific way to experience this part of the world.

Mediterranean Antiquities

However, Europeans tend to dress with a bit of panache; to fit in, pack a stylish scarf or hat, and maybe leave your lanyards and socks and sandals at home. Read about storied attractions, charming history, diverse cultures and preparation advice for cruising Europe. In lands where the culture is as flavorful as the cuisine, the splendor of the Mediterranean speaks for itself.

Travel Is Our Tradition

Most Mediterranean cruises focus on one region (usually the eastern or western halves of the coastline), but longer itineraries might encompass more. While choosing a ship is important, so is picking which route to take and which countries you want to see. You'd be hard-pressed to sample Spain, France, Italy and Greece on one land tour without transportation nightmares. A Mediterranean cruise, however, is the perfect way to get a taste of many coastal countries with ease as you transit between destinations while you sleep aboard your ship. If island hopping in the Mediterranean is on your radar this year, we’ve selected the best cruises for every type of travel style, from families and couples to foodies and history buffs. Our top overall pick is Princess Cruises’ newly launched Sun Princess ship, which calls upon Montenegro, Corfu, Sicily and more.

Cheap Mediterranean Cruise Deals

You can find a variety of weeklong Mediterranean cruises, but if you've got the time, nine- to 14-night sailings are not uncommon. Seven-night cruises are best if you're short on time or want to tack on a few days in Barcelona, Rome or Athens before or after your cruise. Longer itineraries are ideal for experiencing a greater variety of destinations and traversing more of the Med. You'll learn the basics of itineraries, cruise lines, destinations, when to go and when to book your European adventure at sea. Choose your favorite Mediterranean port and venture into a world of discovery with MSC Cruises.

The week-long trip on the Seabourn Encore offers a glimpse at a few of Greece’s best islands. Departing from Athens, the journey stops in Patmos, Agios, Mykonos, and Skiathos but also sprinkles in a few Turkish delights, including Kusadasi and Bozcaada, before disembarking in Istanbul. Excursions include guided tours of historical sites like the Grotto of St. John in Patmos and wine tastings in Bozcaada. From seeing historical monuments to experiencing local cuisine, shopping in some of the most luxurious places on Earth, and visiting awe-inspiring beaches, cruising provides stellar connections to Mediterranean countries. These cruises also cater to every type of traveler — from multigenerational families to solo travelers with options for adults only and all ages. Here are 10 of the best Mediterranean cruises to check out for your next vacation.

Or explore the countryside and meander through the region’s rolling hills that bear vineyards and green olive groves. As one of the greenest islands in Greece, Corfu is an emerald treasure amidst the colorful Mediterranean landscape. From Paleokastritsa, hike to the mountaintop for unparalleled views of the Ionian Sea. Or get a taste of Corfu when you team up with a famous chef, and handpick local produce that they’ll use to prepare your lunch. On European cruises from Barcelona, leave enough time before you depart to visit Park Güell — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and feel inspired by the colors and unique artistry that lies in the park and throughout the entire city.

Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. Experience the thrill of cards, dice, roulette and blackjack at the casino onboard our European cruises. Learn from experts — like our staff or perhaps other guests nearby — and put your skills to the test. More casual players can pull up a seat at the slot machines for the same adrenaline at their own speed.

Wander into the welcoming cafes in Oia, a village teeming with whitewashed buildings and blue-domed roofs. Continue to some of the world’s oldest vineyards and taste the bouquet of wines produced on the island, making sure to visit the black-sand beach of Kamari before heading back to your Mediterranean cruise ship. Famous for its beaches and spirited lifestyle, Mykonos is the heartbeat of Greece. Embark on a jeep safari past the city’s windmills, lighthouses and lakes. Walk past temples and marble-lined sanctuaries in Delos, the birthplace of famous Greek gods.

Everyone has their favorite list of the best Mediterranean cruise ports (as evidenced by the discussion I just had with TPG's cruise team about which to include). Some travelers want to hit all the most popular cities, while others prioritize the ability to walk right off the ship into the heart of the town. Some ports are better for historical attractions, others for cafe culture or outdoor activities. It's a shame that the itinerary has no sea days because the ship offers plenty to keep cruisers busy on board.

Voyager of the Seas cruise ship review

cruise voyager

I personally don't like this change because I feel that there should be some kind of award for winning trivia, even if it is just a key chain or highlighter. Silent Party is one of my dad’s favorite activities on a Royal Caribbean cruise. I also really enjoy this event because usually between the two channels, I can find music I like (modern pop) and dad can find music he likes (70s and 80s hits). This was vastly different than Giovanni’s when there were only about 15 of us dining. The bathroom felt a little more retro than the rest of the cabin because of the color scheme, but it was just fine for our five-night cruise.

Adventure of the Seas

Because this was my first time cruising out of Galveston, I was unsure what the embarkation process was going to be like, but I was eager to see the new Royal Caribbean terminal. Select Voyager Class ships have a Peek-A-Boo bridge, where guests can peek into the bridge and see what the ship’s captain and officers are up to. To access the Peek-A-Boo bridge, head to the very front of the Solarium and exit through the sliding glass doors. The helicopter pad, or helipad, is accessible to guests on Voyager Class ships.

Activities and things to do

Navigator of the Seas is also the only ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet with To Dry For. Other entertainment options can be found throughout the Voyager Class ships, from live music to comedians and karaoke. Guests sailing on Voyager, Navigator, and Mariner of the Seas can play laser tag onboard.

Best Cruise Restaurants Voyager of the Seas

Adults seeking peace away from the bustle can slip into the Oceans Spa on Deck 11 or ascend to The Veranda on Deck 14, the only real kid-free area and certainly the quietest. Different ages tend to coexist happily throughout the ship, although we were sailing outside of UK school holidays. Most passengers' first reaction when seeing Seven Seas Voyage at the dock is surprise that the ship is so big ("All that for just 700 passengers?!"). While Voyager has nine passenger decks, it's not as long from stem to stern as ships that carry more passengers, making it easy to get around without long treks down a corridor. An atrium stretches the height of all the passenger decks, bringing light to the ship's interior. Most onboard services are grouped here, making for easy access to the front desk, destinations desk, library, casino, shops and espresso bar.

Our most brilliant experiences

Onboard entertainment options were upgraded with the “DreamWorks Experience” (themed characters entertainment). The Perfect Storm is complimentary and includes 2 racer slides (“Cyclone” and “Typhoon”). Both spiraling slides are positioned portside and accessed via a 3-floor-high, glass-enclosed swirling staircase. There are no age restrictions, but there are passenger height and weight requirements - min 48 inches (122 cm) and max 300 lbs (136 kg).

Located on the pool deck, this complimentary dining venue offers a variety of hot dogs and sausages. The two main entertainment areas on Voyager Class ships are the theater and Studio B, the ice skating rink. Plan the best vacation with all included onboard cruise activities and experiences! Night owls won’t mind cabins aft cabins on Deck 8 that sit above the Squid & Anchor pub, where there can be music past midnight. Noise and footfall around the kids’ club on Deck 9 aft might cause annoyance to cabins close by, especially during school holidays.

Half a dozen cabins also have restricted picture window views on forward Deck 4, so check the Marella Voyager deck plan beforehand if this would be an issue. Each evening, a "country club casual" dress code applies, and shorts, jeans, deck shoes and tracksuits are all acceptable. Bare feet are only acceptable on the Pool Deck, and bathing suits are not allowed in the restaurants or lounges at any time -- though they can be worn at the Pool Grill and Bar. Onward, an "elegant casual" dress code applies, with skirts, smart trousers or trouser suits with blouses or sweaters for women and collared shirts with optional sports jackets for men.

RCI-Royal Caribbean unveils 2025-2026 Australian ships and homeports

Expect a smorgasbord of nationalities, mainly well-educated, upscale folks. On our seven-night Mediterranean cruise, 29 different nationalities were onboard, including 356 U.S. and 167 U.K. Passengers with a sprinkling of Canadians, Australians and Europeans -- mainly Danish, German and Belgian. As Regent originates from and is based in North America, passengers from this part of the world are usually in the majority. To some extent, of course, the variance of nationalities onboard also depends on where the ship is sailing, with more American passengers when the ship sails in Asia, for example. Regent lays claim to be the most inclusive experience among the major luxury cruise lines.

The Adventure Ocean programming on Navigator was modernized during the amplification as well, and features a kid's rock climbing wall as wall as an outdoor deck for teens. Like Explorer of the Seas, the full amplification of Adventure of the Seas has been delayed. When the Royal Amplified program restarts, though, many of Royal Caribbean's newest dining venues, bars, and activities are expected to be added to the ship. The Connoisseur Club is a lounge onboard where guests can relax while smoking cigars.

Other activities such as ping pong and shuffleboard are also available to guests. The Voyager class refers to a design of post-Panamax cruise ships owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. The Voyager-class ships were built at Kværner Masa-Yards Turku New Shipyard, Finland. Regent reports that the average age is 60, but we found a mixed age group dominated by retirees. There were 50 young people onboard during our seven-night cruise in June.

First timers shouldn’t find the manageable Marella Voyager deck plan too intimidating, and the all-inclusive-as-standard also helps keep it simple – as well as making for some lively evenings. Reception offers currency exchange on some occasions -- from U.S. dollars to euros, for example. Beverages are also included, aside from a few ultra-premium liquors and high-end wines. A perfectly tasty Champagne flows freely, and your favorite call liquor brand likely is included, too. Each restaurant pours a selected red and a white wine nightly, but if those wines aren't to your taste, you can request alternatives.

New-to-the-line Mexican eatery Abuela’s scored high for their dinner offering (though someone should tell them chorizo and churros are Spanish). Another big step forward is in the ship’s increased selection of meat-free dishes, totalling several dozen in all, as well as plenty of plant-based alternatives to keep veggies and vegans happy. Hardcore movie buffs will find lots to rave about in Music in Pictures, an irresistible revue of memorable scores and songs from classic films. And in Studio B, you can watch as world-class figure skaters wow the crowd with head-spinning twirls, gravity-defying jumps, and flawless figure-eights.

Voyager went into dry dock in November 2016, with the goal of bringing it up to the luxe standard of Regent's newest ship, Seven Seas Explorer. Now Voyager's public spaces are refitted with chic, contemporary furnishings, carpets, wall coverings and new lighting throughout. Cabins also underwent a thorough makeover, with updated upholstery, window treatments, carpeting and wall coverings.

We found our suite on Deck 10 perfectly positioned for easy pool and dining access and (besides one weekly pool deck party) away from any after-dark din. Whether you’re traveling with your little ones, teens, or grandparents; every ship in the fleet was designed with families in mind. The Amplified Voyager of the Seas® is one cruise ship that really shines in this department. The rock-climbing walls are now on every RCI vessel, and the Ice Skating Rink and other facilities might also be enjoyed fleetwide. Royal Caribbean’s Voyager Class cruise ships can be a nice choice for first-time or seasoned cruisers. They come with plenty to do, see, eat, and drink onboard, and offer a diverse range of itineraries around the world.

"We're truly sorry for the impact that this has on your vacation plans," Royal Caribbean said in a statement to guests booked on the now cancelled cruise. Instead of sailing through the Suez Canal, Anthem of the Seas will sail without any passengers around Africa. A rise of attacks since October 2023 on commercial ships in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden by the Houthis has greatly impacted tourism in the area. This includes pirate activity and even drones to attack ships in the area. Guests booked on the October 14, 2024 sailing of Anthem of the Seas were informed by Royal Caribbean that they have decided to cancel a Middle East cruise because of concerns for the ship's safety. This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks.

One of the benefits of upgrading to this cabin was the extra large couch. Nonetheless, it was nice to have another place to sit other than our beds. As implied by its name, our upgraded cabin did indeed feel quite spacious at 211 square feet. Our goal has been to provide our readers with expansive coverage of all aspects of the Royal Caribbean experience. Voyager Class ships offer saunas and steam rooms in the fitness area. The Izumi location on Navigator, Voyager, and Explorer of the Seas is on Deck 14 and offers dramatic views of the ocean through floor-to-ceiling windows.
